The "City Vereinigung Luzern" was founded in 1969. The aim at that time was - and still is - to preserve and promote the city of Lucerne as a center for trade, services, tourism and employment.

The "Verein Neustadt Luzern" was founded in 1995 under the name of "Neu statt alt Stadt" ("new town, not old town"). Since then this forum has acquired more than fifty small businesses in the Neustadt district as members to the association, members who have joined forces to promote business and ensure that this part of the city remains attractive.
